The modern epilepsy facility at Malindi Sub-County Hospital
Summary
The Kilifi County Department of Health, in collaboration with H.E. Flora Chibule, Deputy Governor, has joined forces with the Kenya Association for the Welfare of People with Epilepsy (KAWE) and the Chandaria Foundation to establish a pioneering epilepsy facility at Malindi Sub-County Hospital.

In Kilifi county, epilepsy has long been overshadowed by stigma, leading to numerous untreated and undiagnosed cases, leaving a substantial portion of our population without proper care. According to recent data from KAWE, there are currently approximately 6,000 reported cases of epilepsy in Kilifi, with many diagnosed individuals seeking treatment elsewhere at a significant cost.
This initiative aims to improve access to epilepsy treatment, addressing the healthcare needs of the local community. Future investments in the facility are being planned to align with our goal of ensuring accessible healthcare for all residents of Kilifi.
